Ubisoft had eerder bekend gemaakt dat men werkte aan twee free-to-play shooters, amelijk xDefiant en Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland. De uitgever heeft aangegeven dat de laatstgenoemde game is geannuleerd en niet zal worden uitgebracht.
Eerder dit jaar was Ubisoft nog erg enthousiast over Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland. Een beta zou later dit jaar gehouden worden, vervolgens moest er een releasedatum aangekondigd worden voor de PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC en de Cloud. Die plannen gaan nu niet meer door. Ubisoft zegt de moeilijke beslissing genomen te hebben om Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland te annuleren. Een precieze reden geeft Ubisoft niet, maar volgens enkele insiders is de shooter constant door veranderingen gegaan en waren er ontwikkelproblemen.
“After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately,” the company said in a statement. “Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our Red Storm Entertainment studio, who will be transitioning to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”
As part of Ubisoft’s efforts to streamline its operations and adapt to evolving market trends, there have been further reorganizations within the Global Publishing teams, both at the Asia-Pacific region, that is now organized into three engagement hubs, and at the central level,” reads the report. “Additionally, in line with the increased selectivity of its investments, Ubisoft has decided to stop development on The Division Heartland and has redeployed resources to bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”
xDefiant zal wel gewoon verschijnen en staat gepland voor een release op 21 mei voor PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S en PC.
